About Me
A Long Time Ago... In A Town Far Far Away...
My love for all things computer started at a very early age with an Amiga 2000. Yes, the graphics were horrible, and the most creative your artwork could get was different coloured rectangles, but what a piece of kit! My run with the Amiga was short and sweet as I progressed onto consoles like the Sega MegaDrive II and then eventually onto my own PC.
Throughout my school years and growing up, I continued to play on my consoles but I also loved reading, books like The Lord of The Rings or The Prestige (which are books I probably did not understand the true meaning of until I was much older!). I loved music too, and took up piano lessons outside of school, and I continue to play till this day. I loved listening as much as play; its creativity and freedom inspired me to keep playing.
During high school my favourite subjects were always Media Studies and ICT. Media Studies gave me a good insight into the print industry and how Britain's tabloids operate. I loved the creativity of making magazine covers, newspaper articles, posters and other pieces of artwork. ICT gave me insight into computers in general and also into the world of web design, which I fell in love with instantly. I saw web design as an area where I could combine my love of media and computing. I found the Interactive Multimedia Design (IMD) course at the University of Ulster, which reflects both aspects very well.
At University, I learnt more about the key fundamentals of what makes a good design, which helped me to better express my imagination. The course has taught me how to incorporate my ideas into a broad spectrum of media forms such as print based productions, video, audio, and most importantly, web based forms. You can see a full list of my skills in the Services section.
In my third year of IMD, I undertook a one year placement with the Higher Education Academy, Subject Centre for Information and Computer Sciences. This was an incredible placement which gave me the opportunity to travel for work around Ireland and United Kingdom while enhancing both my development and design skills. My position was a website developer, and I created and maintained a number of websites and mini-sites. I also tailor-made a number of Content Management Systems (CMS) for the staff to easily update a webpage's content without having any knowledge of a mark-up language.
I have recently finished my final year of university, and have graduated with a first class degree alongside a diploma with commendation in industrial studies. I now wish to continue learning as much as I can in the field of web design while looking for a challenging job in the multimedia world.
